Tree & Shrub Planting
Autumn is the planting season for trees, shrubs
and, in particular, hedging plants.
Hardwood
plants and perennials - trees or shrubs with
with woody stems - are best planted when the
leaves have fallen and the plants are entering
their dormant phase. That makes the throes
of Autumn the perfect time to consider starting
new planting projects:
Tree
Planting –
Planting
new trees needs to be planned carefully to
ensure successful establishment and growth.
At Nicholsons we have qualified
Foresters who can advise on the best species
for each site, and assist with the layout and
design of new copse and woodland developments.
They will also be able to determine whether
any grants may be available to help cover some
of the costs.
Hedge
Planting –
Site
preparation and species selection are critical
if a new hedge is going to thrive. Protection
from rabbits must be a prime consideration,
and aftercare is vital. Nicholsons has been
planting and tending hedges for more than 30
years, and our own Saxon Hedge is a vigorous
and effective mix of traditional native species.
Supply
Only –
Nicholsons can supply all the plants,
stakes, guards and other sundries necessary through
the company's Plants
Division.
Supply
and Planting –

teams who carry out all the work needed, form
initial site surveys and preparation, through

Nicholsons
Forestry Services
Nicholsons
is able to offer a wide range of tree and
shrub planting solutions tailored to
individual requirements. This may be from
planting a small bare rooted whip to a huge
10m tall specimen trees.
This tasks are undertaken by our own full-trained
teams of experienced foresters and arboriculturalists.
We use materials and plants supplied
by our own nursery, so ensuring that trees
arrive on site in the ideal condition ready
for planting.
We
feel passionate that this greatly enhances the
survival rates when compared to our competitors.
Everything
wants to eat trees!
A fundamental decision before planting is carried
out is to determine exactly what threats the
new plants will face. What is out there that
will do damage? How can we help you to minimise
this threat?
We
offer a wide range of solutions to suit many
different
situations and schemes. Options can range from
individual tree protection through to woodland
scale fencing. The need for protection against all
forms of vermin is one of the most important
factors in assuring the on-going vitality of
any new planting scheme. The implementation
of a cost effective solution can make the
difference between success and failure.
Although
Autumn is the best time for beginning a new
planting project, that doesn't mean that there
aren't plenty of other opportunities throughout
the year when Nicholsons can't be on hand to
help with other planting
and Forestry needs. Please use the simple form
on our Contact
us page to ask for advice and
assistance, or telephone for
further information.
